THE STORY BEHIND AUBERGE DE CASTILLE

This prestigious project was complete back in 2007 but is enjoyed by Maltese nationals and travellers to Malta to this very day. When the Knights of St John built the city of Valletta, originally constructed back in 1570 as an Auberge or inn for each of the languages (languages or nationalities) of the Order. The current building dates back to the 1740s, it was completely built in the Baroque style, it has been called “probably the finest building in Malta”.  The Auberge de Castille was the official seat of the knights of the Langue of Castille, León and Portugal – one of the most powerful of the Order. Nowadays the Auberge is the office of Malta’s Prime Minister.

This project initiated back in 2007 when various parts of the Auberge were also being restored. J.Lautier was in charge with the external part in Glass Apertures and took full responsibility for some minor works inside the Auberge. The team gives importance to each and every project no matter their size, and commits to giving a professional service and produce the best possible work.

J.Lautier. Co.Ltd and Architecture Projects worked in hand to come up with the design while MMCL was mainly trusted with the fabrication and installation of the Glass facades; Railings; Glass doors and Apertures.

” ” It was an honour to take part in the restoration of Castille which is a prestigious project, The restoration gave the Auberge a modernized look apart from increasing safety and security features.
